A CASA VOLUNTEER IS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO:  

bullet

Is at least 21 years and can commit to 10-15 hours per month, for at least a year. 

 

bullet

Has been screened & trained by the CASA program.

 

bullet

Is appointed by the court to advocate for abused and neglected children.

 

bullet

Respects a child's inherent right to grow up with
dignity in a safe and nurturing environment.

 

bullet

Assures that the child's best interests are represented in the court at every stage of the case.

 

All CASA advocates undergo 30 hours of training prior to being assigned a case.

A CASA VOLUNTEER MUST...

bullet

Have the ability to keep all information confidential.

 

bullet

Be able to communicate effectively and relate to people from various
backgrounds in a variety of settings.

 

bullet

Be able to maintain objectivity.

 

bullet

Maintain professionalism in behavior and appearance.

 

bullet

Be willing to report any incidents of child abuse or neglect.

A CASA VOLUNTEER'S RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

 

bullet

Interview all parties and maintain written records about the case.

 

bullet

Visit the child/children involved in the at a minimum of once per month.

 

bullet

Ensure that essential needs for the child are being met.

 

bullet

Participate in the child's planning and treatment program.

 

bullet

Provide the CASA office with a written report 10 business days prior to the hearing.

 

bullet

Attend all court hearings until the case is closed by the court.

 

bullet

Attend 10-15 hours of continuing training each year.  Accomplished through CASA in service events.
